Puppies
A puppy groom is where it all begins which means getting it right. They need to come regularly for a ‘puppy groom’ so they gradually get used to me, the salon environment and the grooming. For the first few grooms they will experience bathing, drying and maybe the scissors before they have their first grown up haircut!
Grooming
An assessment of coat and consultation with owner is my first step. I may clip off before the bath depending on what I am doing. I do a first rinse shampoo to loosen debris and dirt followed by a second rinse shampoo. This ensures all dirt and debris is removed and then a coat conditioner is applied to maintain coat. Finally I dry the dog with a dryer or towel dry if they really don’t like it. I then clip or trim depending on the style. Afterwards spritzed with fragrance spray if requested.
Nails, Anal glands, Fleas and Ticks
Nails are checked during each groom and clipped if needed as long as the dog allows. If they have grown into the pad you will need to seek veterinary advice.
Anal glands and ear plucking are no longer offered by myself due to problems which could occur and should be done by your Vet.
Fleas and ticks - I will do a natural flea bath for a dog already with fleas but do not offer this as a service as they should be treated before they enter the salon incase they pass the fleas on to anyone else. With ticks I can remove them as long as the dog allows.
Matted coats
Should a dog be presented with a matted or neglected coat in my opinion it is kinder to clip the coat back completely to prevent suffering..... humanity over vanity! In some cases this can lead to skin irritation or the coat to grow back differently which I will not be liable for! It is down to every owner to brush and comb their dogs everyday so make life easier for me as a groomer and a nicer experience for the dog.
